Primetime Cuomo Wanda Vision

Popcorn Politics 3-9-2021 Brian Kramer and Eric Cunningham

Primetime Cuomo Wanda Vision

In today’s episode of Popcorn Politics, Brian Kramer and I discussed the bad news swirling around Andrew Cuomo in regards to the sexual assault and harassment allegations he’s facing.

This story just keeps getting worse for Cuomo as accusers come out almost daily at this point, and he doesn’t help his case by threatening state senators Ron Kim and Alessandra Biaggi.

We talked about his impeachment odds and whether he’d win a primary. The topic of stimulus and the filibuster also came up as Senate Democrats debate what to push for next, voting rights or infrastructure.

If they were to push for voting rights, they’d have to eliminate the filibuster, a move that Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, the Senators from Arizona and West Virginia, have resisted.

Though Manchin has softened in his opposition over the last few days, Sinema remains ardent in her opposition to any changes.

In hour 2, Eric Cunningham and I discuss WandaVision, the new Disney Plus MCU series. WandaVision is an exploration of Wanda’s grief, both in structure and narrative.

The episodes follow the stages of grief to a tee. This show is very different from a typical MCU show not just in theme but in construction.

We don’t know if there’s even an antagonist until the penultimate episode, that’s also when we get our first action sequence.

This is a character piece, unlike anything the MCU has attempted before. The show is carried by Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany’s excellent performances.

WandaVision also fixes one of my long-running issues with the MCU, the development between Wanda and Vision all happened off-screen.

This show fills in the gaps of their relationship and contextualizes it for the viewer. We discuss all of this and more, I hope you enjoy the episode.
