Jersey Cat Scratch Fever

(Notes From Dylan)

In this episode of Popcorn Politics, Ben Kestenbaum and I discuss the various New Jersey Primaries that took place last night.

As we expected, the Democratic machine got its way in all but 1 race, NJ-2.

NJ-2 became a proxy battle between State Senator Steve Sweeney and Governor Phil Murphy. Amy Kennedy, Murphy’s choice, won a decisive victory and goes on to challenge Jeff Van Drew, the former Democratic representative who became a Republican during the impeachment trial.

After that, Ted Edmonson joined me once again to discuss Tucker Carlson and an article that was written about him speculating about a 2024 presidential bid.

Carlson is someone I’ve speculated would be a top contender for quite some time, in the post-Trump Republican party we’re going to see a battle between populists and moderates.

Carlson, because of his audience, would be a candidate that populists could coalesce around.

In hour 2, Ferric and Mature join me to tackle the abominable mess known as Cats.

Cats was released last year and got universally panned by critics and audiences. The reason, where do we start?

The plot is almost nonexistent, with strange and nonsensical diversions throughout, and plain creepy imagery. The film utilizes incredible visual effects to degrade prestigious actors like Ian McKellan.

The film’s lack of visual or narrative consistency is glaring throughout the film, but particularly in the second musical number where Rebel Wilson’s Character rips off her fur to reveal clothing and more fur underneath, was she wearing a fur coat? Who knows.

Narratively, the movie collapses immediately when the main character is literally dropped into the world, no motivation or anything, just appears and is thrust into a world that makes no sense.

All of that said, Cats is an experience that everyone should go through at least once.
