Game Thrones Primary DNC

(Notes From Dylan)

In this episode of Popcorn Politics, Eric Cunningham and I discussed the Justice Democrats’ success during the 2020 primary cycle and what Cori Bush’s victory means for the burgeoning left movement.

The Bush victory is more significant than any prior victory because of the incumbent she defeated. Lacy Clay represented a 52-year political dynasty in Missouri’s 1st congressional district and is the son of the co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus.

This victory is unlike the others in that Clay was a minority, not ideologically out of touch with the party, and wasn’t caught sleeping at the wheel. Bush’s victory proves the thesis that the Justice Democrats can beat any Democrat with the right candidate, their ideas have a place.

We also discussed Alex Morse and controversies surrounding him as he challenges the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Richard Neal. Morse’s campaign, which was thought to be dead, has gained significant momentum.

In hour 2, my friend Jason and I did a spoiler-filled discussion of the first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones.

This discussion, which revolved primarily around the multitude of great character arcs and archetypes, will be expanded upon into deep dives on each season.

The first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones are a masterpiece of storytelling, the amount of characters and storylines that are juggled and balanced is incredible.

The story has resulted in characters that I would consider among the best-written characters of all time in Jaime Lannister and Sansa Stark. The development and journey of these 2 characters are unparalleled on television.

The level of writing talent that it takes to make someone as despicable as Jaime is set up to be redeemable in any way, let alone making him one of the few people you root for by the end, is extraordinary.
